A personal goal tracker.
Big goals get broken into smaller ones. Each week gets a plan. Each day gets tasks.
The Clarity Mate Method
Three simple habits for getting big things done. You can do all three with a notebook — Clarity just takes care of the bookkeeping.
Habit 1
Break it down
“Launch the redesign” isn't a task — it's a hundred of them. The bigger the goal, the fuzzier it gets, and fuzzy goals don't get started.
- Try it yourself
- Write the goal at the top of a page. Split it into a handful of parts, then split each part again. Keep going until every piece is something you could finish in an afternoon.
- With Clarity
- Goals nest inside goals, as deep as you need. Every piece at the bottom is a real next step.
Habit 2
Focus on what's next
A list of everything is a list of nothing. When the whole plan is in front of you, half the day goes on shuffling it.
- Try it yourself
- On Monday, pick the few pieces that matter this week. Each morning, pick today's from those. Hide everything else — it'll still be there next week.
- With Clarity
- A weekly plan and a daily plan hold just what you're working on now. Finished projects can be archived out of sight.
Habit 3
Track every part
You know you were busy — you just can't remember what for. Progress on a big goal is hard to see, and progress you can't see is hard to keep going with.
- Try it yourself
- When a piece is done, tick it off. Then update the part above it, and the goal above that. On Friday, look back at what moved.
- With Clarity
- Tick off a step and progress rolls up through every level automatically. The progress view shows exactly what you got done this week.
